The 2024-25 Michigan high school girls basketball season is underway, with some of the best players in the state gracing the Saginaw area.
Early season games will see the Saginaw area’s best players show why they are headed for big seasons.
Here are 10 Saginaw-area girls basketball players to watch as they enter the 2024-2025 season.
Grace Brenner, Frankenmuth
As a freshman point guard, Grace Brenner was named to the Tri-Valley Conference first team. She averaged 5.7 points, 4.6 steals, 4.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game for Frankenmuth. Brenner shot 40 percent from the three-point line and 70 percent from the free throw line.
Clare Conzelmann, Frankenmuth
As a junior, Clare Conzelmann starred as Frankenmuth’s best defender and shooter, signed to play for Lake Superior State. The 6-foot-1 guard shot 42 percent from the three-point line and 48 percent from the floor as a junior. She averaged 14 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game, setting a record for points in a quarter with 19 against Essexville Garber. Conzelmann has an average of 4.05 points.
Reese Gohsman, Millington
As a junior, Reese Gohsman broke the Millington single-season scoring record with 433 points. The 6-foot-1 senior averaged 19.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals per game last season.
Victoria Hauffe, Hemlock
With Lauren and Hannah Borsenik graduating, Hemlock will look to junior Victoria Hauffe, who was on the state championship team as a freshman. The Hemlock guard averaged 9.7 points and hit 35.3 percent from the three-point line as a sophomore.
Karie Keefer, Freeland
Karie Keefer is entering the final season of a dominant career for Freeland with over 1,000 points. As a junior, the Northwood-bound senior averaged 20.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Keefer, a 6-foot-2 guard, shot 85 percent from the free-throw line and 34 percent from the three-point line.
Melanie Kolnitys, Midland Dow
Melanie Kolnitys led a balanced Midland Dow team that reached the 20-win mark, with the sophomore point guard leading the defense. As a sophomore, Kolnitys averaged 11.1 points, 3.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game.
Halen McLaughlin, Sanford Meridian
Halen McLaughlin has starred on the basketball court since her freshman season, leading Sanford Meridian to some of the most successful seasons in program history. As a junior, McLaughlin averaged 21 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists per game, surpassing the 1,000-point mark. Meridian has surpassed the 20-win mark in each of McLaughlin’s first three seasons.
Gracie Mellinger, Alma
Gracie Mellinger eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in a season-opening win over Gladwin. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 18.1 points, 3.6 steals, 3.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a junior and shot 83.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Alesia Ode, Heritage
After a strong freshman season, Alesia Ode struggled with injuries as a sophomore but still averaged 13.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. The 6-foot-1 guard got off to a strong start in her junior season, scoring 18 points and nine rebounds in a win over Division 3 power Sanford Meridian and 26 points and eight rebounds in a win over defending state champion West Bloomfield.
Addie Seeman, Freeland
Addie Seeman broke through at the tournament, leading Freeland to a district title during her junior season. The 6-foot-1 center tore an ACL as a sophomore but bounced back to average 13 points and nine rebounds as a junior.
